Caulking Tips: Secrets of the Professional Painter

home painters

Caulking can be one of the things that really makes your house look great. But, it can be difficult and time consuming for people if they don’t use the following tips. Often times I see a caulking job that has wrinkles, ripples and is generally a poor end product. Use the following tip to avoid this.

First, make sure that when you cut the tip off the caulking tube, to cut it at an angle. Also, do not cut too much of the tip off, an eighth of an inch for smaller gaps and a quarter of an inch for wider ones. If you cut too much of the tip off it will allow too much caulk to come out and things will get messy real quick.

]]>

Now, lay down an even amount of caulk, enough to fill in the gap completely and a little more. This makes for and even surface of the caulk.

Finally, and here is the key, have a damp cloth or rag. Wet your finger and run it along the line of caulk. Every time you lift your finger, remove the excess caulk and wet your finger. This produces an even, smooth line of caulk. Allow the caulk to dry completely. Go back and check for missed spots and repeat Steps if necessary.

Make sure to use Siliconized Acrylic Caulk. This type of caulk is paintable. Get a product that is rated for at least 25 years. If you do use regular Silicone Caulk, which I have seen people use, the paint will not stick to it. If for some reason you have to paint over regular Silicone Caulk, use Primer in a spray can and spray along the Silicon caulk and let dry. This will allow the paint to stick to the surface.

I hope this tip was useful and helps you produce a beautiful and professional finish on your home. Remember, a fresh coat of paint on the exterior of your home adds a great deal to the curb appeal and value of your home.

Frederic Remington – Master Painter of the American West

home painters

Remington was born in Canton, New York in 1861. His mother’s family had immigrated from Alsace-Lorraine on the Franco-Prussian border and owned a series of hardware stores. His father’s family had reached America from England in 1637, and his father himself served as a colonel in the Civil War, and worked as a newspaper editor and postmaster.

Remington, however, was not the best student as a child. He enjoyed outdoor sports such as hunting, riding and camping, but his math was too poor to attend West Point, a disappointment for his father. Nonetheless, when Remington was 11, the family moved to Ogdensburg, New York, and Remington attended Vermont Episcopal Institute, a church-run military school. He took his first drawing lessons there before transferring to another military school where he developed an ambition to become a journalist, doing art for pleasure. He eventually studied at Yale’s art school, the only man in the freshman class.

Even at college though, Remington found himself drawn more towards football and boxing than still life and formal art training. His first published illustration appeared in the student newspaper, Yale Courant, and depicted a bandaged football player. In 1879, Remington stopped studying to look after his sick father, who died a year later. There then followed several years in which he burned through his inheritance in youthful Western adventures. At the age of nineteen, Remington traveled to Montana to look into buying a cattle operation, or a mining interest. He did neither but he did get to see the prairies, the buffalo and battles between the U.S. Cavalry and Native Americans. Harper’s Weekly gave him his first commercial publication, printing a sketch that he had submitted.

]]>

Remington moved on to Kansas where he bought a ranch and worked as a “holiday stockman” before discovering that cowboy work was hard and dull. After failing to build a hardware store, he returned home, married Eva Caten, and opened a saloon in Kansas City where he also sketched the regulars. The business did poorly, his wife left, and eventually Remington returned to Brooklyn. Reunited with his wife, he studied at the Art Students League of New York, drawing on his experience to submit images of the West to Collier’s and Harper’s Weekly. On January 9, 1886, Harper’s gave him his first cover and later that year sent him to Arizona as an artist-correspondent reporting on the war against Geronimo. The publication then sent him to cover the South Carolina earthquake. It was his first year as a commercial artist, and he had earned ,200, a good sum for those days.

Remington began adding watercolor to his sketches and to sell his work at art exhibitions. His oil painting Return of the Blackfoot War Party was exhibited at the National Academy of Design and he won a medal at the Paris Exposition. In 1887, Theodore Roosevelt asked him to produce 83 illustrations for his book “Ranch Life and the Hunting Trail” and three years later, his first one-man show at the American Art Galleries was a big success. Western Army officers invited him to paint their field portraits, which he did with a photographic quality.

Remington spent much of the 1890s traveling around the US and Mexico, but by now, his celebrity made him a frequent visitor at banquets and stag dinners, and obesity was becoming a problem. In 1898, he illustrated scenes of the Spanish-American War for the New York Journal, creating Scream of the Shrapnel, which focused on the troops rather than the Generals.

In 1908, with a financial crisis weakening art sales and his images out of fashion, he moved to Ridgefield, Connecticut and created works that showed the influence of Impressionism. He died following an emergency appendectomy on December 26, 1909, leaving behind a collection of naturalistic images that became part of the way the West was remembered.

Prafulla The Painter With Incredible Mastery Of Color

home painters

Prafulla Dahanukar is one of the senior-most woman artists of India with her career spanning more than fifty three years. Working from abstract landscapes, Prafulla began to work on repetitive forms, as she explored rendering subtle changes of the shades in color. Over the last decade, her heavy textural strokes have given way to more expressive transitions of color on her canvases. She has evolved her own distinctive style of painting.

She has explored the concept of permanence. And she finally came to the truth that it is Space and only Space that is permanent and timeless. Everything else has a life cycle. She used her mastery of colors and shades to create depth in her paintings to bring out the essence of peaceful space. There is no threat to the existence of space and therefore it has the essential ingredient of peace and tranquility.

I would like the reader to look at her art. While there are many sites like flickr, Webshots and Wikimedia Commons which display her paintings, the easiest would be to download her painting photo book from the link given below.

Now that you have seen her paintings, we can discuss her work more meaningfully. First of all you can observe that in each of her paintings there is one dominant color. The painting may be predominantly red, or green or blue or yellow or white. The other color is generally dark brown with light dominating the painting. The second character of the painting is that you can visually see horizontal bands or lines in the painting. These lines stretch from one side of the canvas to the other. It is these bands that show that the painting is not of any confined area but denotes space which outflows on all the four sides of the canvas. The vastness of the space is thus denoted. The third feature that you notice about the painting is that it has repetitive forms spread horizontally. The forms could be interpreted as time-lapse art which show the moving position of objects over a long period of time. They show movement and dynamic character of the contents of space. The fourth feature that you can see is that the horizontal bands are lighter and darker of subtle shades and as you watch them the painting shows the depth with some parts appearing nearer and some parts farther away. Thus the artist succeeds in portraying unending and timeless space which she aptly calls ‘Eternal Space.’

]]>

While she takes pains to elaborately paint the canvas, each painting is unique and cannot be replicated. She admits candidly, “When I begin to paint a new canvas, I put down what I feel at that time. That time never returns and I can never paint the same painting again!”

She paints for peace in her paintings to make her painting wonderful to live with. No matter how many times you see it, glance it, or ogle it, you never tire of it. Every time it gives you a quick way to get relax your mind. I have come to the conclusion that her paintings are unique because everyone interprets them according their own mind-set. So not the painting looks different to different viewers but it looks different even to the same individual from day to day as he or she discovers as a new aspect which was not noticed before. But the selection of her particular painting is an intuitive choice for the collector. They knew innately that the particular painting they chose was meant for their place!

In today’s racy lifestyle we need anchors to bring our mind back to alpha state. I feel Prafulla’s painting is one such effective visual cue for conditioning the mind for instant relaxation. You can place it where peaceful ambiance is necessary. You can choose the color which blends in with the surroundings and does not irk the eye. The presence of the ‘Eternal Space’ painting could increase productivity in the office and happiness at home! Her painting could bring in a change of mood when you return from a stressful day in the field!

As like any fine art, Prafulla’s painting is a good financial investment. It increases in value. The investor would probably get much more than the interest from bank deposit! He can sell back to the dealer or offer it at prime art auctions. But when one lives with her painting, he or she will never want to part with it unless there are unusual circumstances!

You too can enjoy the benefit of her art for free! Save the downloaded file of her photo book on your desktop and see the paintings every now and then for a few minutes. Observe the paintings one by one allowing time for the mind to absorb its mood. You will find a feeling of wellbeing surging in your mind. It’s the way to do “Wellness Meditation” at your desk. Do it and you will soon know how it effective it is!

You’re also going to have move some heavy furniture, so make sure you’re ready before taking the job on yourself. What’s your schedule look like? – depending on the job, you will be getting yourself into a few full days of work. If you’re trying to do an exterior especially, it could take a few month’s worth of weekends. Make sure you’re expecting that, and preparing for it. The number one thing you don’t want to do, is get halfway done and then run out of time, leaving an unfinished mess with plastic up everywhere for days or weeks. Experience count too. Don’t ever underestimate the value of a skilled contractor that does paint jobs for a living. You deserve a professional looking paint job, and there’s a lot of details that goes into quality work. What kind of paint do you choose? Are you caulking the right places? There’s also going to be unexpected problems that pop up, every job is different and experience can be the difference between a mediocre solution and a great one.

Finding a Good Painter for Your Exterior House Project

home painters

The exterior of any house is just as important as the interior, although it is very common to find people who have neglected this part of the home by giving all their attention to the interior. Although a house may look good on the inside, it can be quite unappealing if the exterior of the house is left unattended. This is the one mistake many landlords have made in trying to make their houses marketable.

The one thing that can be done to the exterior of the house to make it as attractive as it can be is painting. Although most people think that this is a simple process, it can be quite a chore depending on the particular construction materials used on the exterior of the house. It is difficult to make the exterior of your house beautiful on your own without the help of a painting professional, so it will be necessary to do some research to hire the right painting contractor for your needs.

]]>

There are a few things that should be considered when hiring the services of a painting contractor for your home. By taking a few things into consideration, you will be able to place your home in the hands of a capable painting contractor, providing you with wonderful results at the end of the job.

Competence: A good painting contractor should be competent in getting the job done. This means that he should have the necessary knowledge and expertise in roofing and should not get confused on how to accomplish the job. The company should know the best technique to use on your exterior surfaces to get them looking attractive without causing any kind of damage.

The Right Equipment: The painting contractor should not only have the knowledge but should also have the right tools for the job. Things such as ladders and brushes as well as quality paints should be used to avoid damage and accidents as the work progresses. The contractor should also have the equipment on hand and not ask you to buy such equipment. The only thing you might be required to buy is the paint.

The Pricing: The other thing to consider when hiring a painting contractor is the price for the exterior painting job. It is important to note that different contractors offer different prices, so it is wise to compare painting contractors to find one that fits your budget. However, the price should not be prioritized over the quality of the work as it is the quality of the work that matters in the long run. It makes no sense to pay less only to have a shoddy job done since it will cost you more over time.

Kansas City House Painter Says Painting Your House Adds Value

home painters

Painting is an investment and is your Kansas City area home’s first line of defense against the elements. It is important to select the most appropriate exterior paint in terms of long-lasting protection. There are a few things when considering the type of paint to select for your home

: Paint should withstand harsh weather conditions without fading. Selecting a 100 percent acrylic latex formula that resists peeling, cracking and fading in all weather conditions is ideal.

: It’s important to select a paint that protects against both mildew and algae. Folks tend to assume that these are the same organisms, when they are not. Algae can grow on an inert surface because it only needs water and sunlight to grow (it can even grow on glass), while mildew needs organic food such as sugar from wood or oil from paint to develop. Read labels carefully. Many paints offer only mildew protection.

: Look for a paint that can save you time and deliver a professional-looking appearance. An ideal solution would be a thick, one-coat paint that delivers the same quality finish as two or more coats.

: Select a paint that provides exceptional hiding. Hiding refers to the paint’s ability to obscure the surface over which it has been applied, and it is achieved by the paint’s pigment, binder properties and thickness. Many paints use gray toning to achieve hide, which can create a dull and gray finish. Choosing paint with a pure white base ensures that you can achieve advanced hide without visible gray tinting. A brilliant white finish achieved via hide is especially important when painting your house white or a light color such as yellow.

Choosing a color should reflect your style and make the most of your home’s features. Begin the selection process by thinking about what type of house you own. Certain architectural styles demand different color palettes, tones and schemes. Think about the color of homes that neighbor yours. Also consider the natural elements that surround your house and how they look year-round. Nearby foliage might help you choose accent or trim colors. That is a great House Selling Tips Painting only won’t do it. You need to choose your paint wisely

The Advantage of Employing Professional Palm Springs Painter and Installer of Wallpapers

home painters

Whether the home just needs an a repaint or a new wallpaper installed in a single of the bedrooms, it is definitely best to hire an expert painter and wall paper installer to obtain the very best out of a whole situation.

Hiring a specialist to complete the makeover may sound expensive at first when the truth is it is not for professionals would never make their clients shoulder expensive mistakes and they may do the job within a matter of days depending on the agreement. Hiring an established can only have one result, professionally painted homes and professionally installed wallpapers. Take for example painting a wall; it is alright if the one doing it has had lots of experience but what if it is an inexperienced individual doing it? Trying to achieve a unique shade of yellow form example isn’t that easy. It is fortunate if one could find that particular shade of color that the beginner always wanted but imagin if there have been none available and the only way to obtain the specified results is to combine colors, a beginner not knowing what to do could only finish up disappointed.

People always come into paint shops and complain how the paint they bought wasn’t the colour they wanted even when when dry it looked like the one they wanted and additionally complain regarding the original paint bleeding into the new coat because they forgot to color a primer. The savings will quickly turn expensive as the one strategy to correct the paintjob is to cover it again with a different coat of paint. As to the topic of putting in wallpaper… well, the only real thing that could be said about this is “Hire a professional!” No matter what others say, it takes a competent to set up wallpapers and no beginer could possibly get a similar results especially if they do it wrong. Did you ever encounter peeling tints from glass? Unprofessionally installed wallpaper could have a similar effect and can only be corrected if it were removed and replaced altogether. The only way to go about this is to use a Wall Paper Palm Springs installer who can do the best job. The professionals may make it look easy when it is actually not.

Winslow Homer – American Landscape Painter

home painters

Homer was born in Boston, Massachusetts and, when he was 19, was apprenticed to a commercial lithographer. Despite having almost no formal training in art, Homer moved to New York in 1859 and opened his own studio as a painter and illustrator. He took art classes and was a regular freelance illustrator for Harper’s Weekly and other important magazines of the day. They would be his major source of income for the next 17 years.

When the Civil War erupted in 1861, Harper’s sent him to the front lines to document the fighting. He made faithful sketches of the battle scenes and ordinary life in the camps. Although these did not get Homer much artistic recognition at the time the drawings, with their strong draftsmanship and realism, are today considered to be among the best of America?s graphic arts.

After the war, Homer produced a series of paintings influenced by scenes he had witnessed, among them Sharpshooter on Picket Duty, and Prisoners from the Front, which was exhibited at the Paris Exposition of 1866. In the same year he traveled to Paris and stayed there for ten months.

Ten years after the end of the Civil War, Winslow Homer was in his mid-40s and an acclaimed painter and illustrator. Snap the Whip, painted in 1872, was exhibited at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia and, in the same year, he decided to abandon illustration and devote himself to painting. But perhaps the most significant development in Homer?s artistic career came with his adoption of watercolors. He is quoted as saying “You will see, in the future I will live by my watercolors” and, indeed, the success he achieved with these fresh and spontaneous works permitted him to stop working as an illustrator.

]]>

At this time, Homer never went anywhere without brushes, paper and his pans of watercolors. He started depicting the coast of New England, the Adirondacks, the wild rivers of Quebec, the Florida Keys and the whitewashed walls of Bermuda.

In 1881 Homer returned to Europe and spent the next two years in Cullercoats, a small fishing village on the stormy North Sea coast of England. His subject matter was the sea and the courageous inhabitants of the small struggling community. The watercolors he produced of the village women going about their daily lives or waiting for their menfolk to return from a fishing expedition are some of the most powerful images produced by the artist.

Back in the U.S. he went to live in Prout’s Neck, Maine where he built a studio on the rocky sea shore that was to be his home until he died. Winslow Homer lived there alone, isolated and free to devote himself to his art. It is at this time that he began painting the seascapes for which he is best known such as Gulf Stream, Eight Bells, and Mending the Nets. His paintings underwent a fundamental change. He was now concentrating on the force, drama, and wild beauty of the ocean. His style was powerful and self-confident. Homer never spoke about the reasons for this self-imposed seclusion; it?s thought that perhaps an unhappy love affair might have been the cause.

Winslow Homer died on September 29, 1910 in his studio at Prout’s Neck. He was 74 years old. His painting, Shoot the Rapids, remained unfinished.

You can find a wide collection of Winslow Homer paint by number patterns at the Segmation web site. These patterns may be viewed, painted, and printed using SegPlay™PC a fun, computerized paint-by-numbers program for Windows 2000, XP, and Vista.

House Painter Bitten by Dog…
Mission Viejo: The Big Problem of Dog Bites and Dog Attacks in Mission Viejo, California

by Jon Mitchell Jackson/ Jackson & Wilson
www.MissionViejoDogBiteLawyer.com
2009 Orange County Trial Lawyer of the Year

Each year dozens of people who live in Mission Viejo, California, become dog bite victims. Across the United States, almost 5,000,000 people are bitten or attacked by dogs and 334,000 dog bite and dog attack victims require emergency medical treatment.

Most Mission Viejo dog bite and dog attack victims are not aware of the fact that on a daily basis, more than 1,000 dog bite and dog attack victims are treated in hospital emergency rooms such as Mission Viejo Medical Center and Saddleback Hospital. About 15-20 of these dog bite attacks result in death.

Dog bites and dog attacks result in approximately 44,000 facial injuries each year with the face and hands being the most injured body parts. This represents more than 1,000 emergency room visits each day.

Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States seeks medical attention for a dog bite. Most of the Mission Viejo dog bite and dog attack victims are children and nationally, children are injured more than anyone else (about 60 percent of all dog bite or dog attack victims). Male patients slightly outnumber females.

Mission Viejo’s dog bite and dog attack figures add to the approximate 800,000 dog bites per year in the United States that require medical treatment. With the victims who are children, most of them are bitten on the face. And also as in Mission Viejo, about 70 percent of dog bites occur on the owner’s property or in a victim’s neighborhood.

Strict liability law provides that the Mission Viejo dog bite owner is liable for the damages suffered by any Mission Viejo resident who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place located in Mission Viejo. This includes the dog owner’s property located in Mission Viejo, regardless of the prior viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of that viciousness. Contrary to what many people believe, there is no one bite rule in Mission Viejo or California in general.

In Mission Viejo, a person who keeps or has control of an animal (including a dog) may be held liable under the dangerous animal rule and for negligence for all sustained injuries and damages to other Mission Viejo residents. This may apply even if the dog is partly under the care of others.

It is important to note that more than half of all dog bite and dog attack victims in Mission Viejo are children who are usually attacked in the face. For every fatal dog bite in the United States, there are about 230,000 bites that are not treated by a physician. Most Mission Viejo dog bite victims fail to seek medical attention at either Mission Hospital or Saddleback Hospital.

About 40 percent of all Mission Viejo residents own at least one dog and this figure also applies to other cities across America. This means that there are more than 55 million dogs in the United States. And in Mission Viejo, a majority of dog bite attacks happen at home or at a neighbors house in the presence of family and friends.

In Mission Viejo, Rottweillers and Pit Bulls lead the pack in numbers when it comes to dog bite maiming and deaths. Eight out of ten dog bites in Mission Viejo involve a male dog. In the United States, dog bite and dog attack related losses exceed billion dollars per year!
